Curt Battles, https://www.newcanaanadvisors.com, shares ideas of innovation and development. Innovative ideas can come to you in a dream.

I have a new client, an arts consultant, who works with corporations to evaluate the art they have hanging throughout their headquarters and other facilities. She helps organize their collection, like how they should rotate it and if they should use fine art (originals) or poster art (like in a doctor’s office). She offers consultation concerning the selection, purchasing and installation of art.

This innovative new business is looking at expanding into health care facilities, specifically children’s wards, so the art must be encouraging and uplifting for kids that are recovering.

The individual that created this concept came from the technology and financial services sector. She has been doing this for about 10 years and wishes to double the size of her business over the next 3 years. I’m assisting by looking at some of the procedures and searching for where additional capital or better resources may lay, to help her expand her operations.

She has primarily used independent contractors as her extended staff, up until this point.  Now, as she grows her business, she is looking to bring individuals “on board” as regular full-time employees. There are numerous programs that allow her to hire a veteran, whose salary would then be partially subsidized by the federal government for a period of time. This program is a win-win: It helps the veteran, honors what they’ve done, and helps businesses as they transition into having W-2 employees instead of contractors.

One recent innovation this client “dreamed up” was the idea of an “Art Truck” and with the title “Art on the Road.” It’s similar to the popular food truck trend, except people come and look at big screens to select art for an apartment or other building. Perfect for a town like Stamford where hundreds of new apartments are being built. This would give those residents a chance to select and order for delivery.

There is also enormous potential to create a cultural learning experience for kids.

But there are many questions my client must first answer:

I often tell people: “The things you dream up in the middle of the night, I help bring into the light of day.” You need somebody that can honor your ideas and help bring them to fruition.
